BYD Partners With DLL to Finance Electric Trucks and Buses Across Europe

Editor••3 min read

BYD has selected global asset finance company DLL as its strategic financing partner for electric trucks and buses in Europe, as the Chinese manufacturer expands its commercial-vehicle operations and dealer network across the region.

Financing partnership begins in nine European markets

Under the agreement, DLL will provide retail financing and dealer stock financing for BYD electric trucks and buses. The partnership is due to begin in the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Spain, France, Portugal, Ireland, Poland and the United Kingdom, with the companies planning to extend financing solutions into other European markets in the future.

The arrangement is intended to give fleet operators and public-transport customers more flexible routes to acquire zero-emission commercial vehicles, while also supporting dealers holding BYD stock. BYD is pursuing a broader expansion of its European commercial-vehicle business, where financial services can be an important element in helping operators move from diesel fleets to battery-electric vehicles.

According to Stella Li, BYD’s Executive Vice President, electric buses and trucks are central to the company’s European electric-mobility strategy. She said the DLL collaboration is designed to make the transition to lower-emission fleets more accessible and affordable for customers.

Support for BYD’s growing truck and bus business

BYD already has an established presence in Europe’s electric bus market. The company says that more than 8,000 BYD ebuses are either operating or on order in more than 160 cities across the region. BYD also says it has established manufacturing facilities in Europe to support its electric bus business.

The company is now extending its commercial-vehicle offer with an electric truck range sold through direct channels and an expanding dealer network. The new deal with DLL adds a financing component to that rollout, potentially linking vehicle sales, dealer support and fleet funding under a single strategic partnership.

Mike Kinka, President of DLL’s Construction, Transportation and Industrial business, described the agreement as part of DLL’s eMobility strategy. He said DLL’s role as BYD’s partner for trucks, buses and forklift trucks would support the adoption of lower-emission transport fleets across Europe.

BYD builds a wider European support network

The financing partnership comes as BYD invests in the support infrastructure required for a larger European vehicle base. In the UK, the company has opened its first dedicated Battery Service Centre, which is intended to service and repair batteries for commercial and passenger vehicles, including repairs beyond standard service work.

For commercial operators, vehicle availability, battery support and access to financing can all affect the practicality of electrifying a fleet. BYD and DLL said their cooperation aims to improve financial-service efficiency and provide more convenient options for customers adopting electric buses and trucks.

BYD’s stated longer-term objective is to build a European financing ecosystem with established partners that can support dealer networks, sustainable transport funding and mobility solutions tailored to fleet operators. The DLL agreement is an early part of that plan, covering a substantial group of European markets while leaving room for further regional expansion.

For DLL, the partnership broadens its involvement in electric commercial transport. For BYD, it provides a dedicated finance partner as the company seeks to scale beyond electric buses and establish a stronger foothold in Europe’s electric truck market.
