Electric-vehicle batteries do not normally switch from “healthy” to “worn out” overnight. They gradually lose some usable capacity as they age and accumulate charge cycles.
What affects degradation?
Battery chemistry, thermal management, calendar age, operating temperature, charging habits and the amount of time spent at very high or very low states of charge can all influence long-term battery health.
Practical habits
- Follow the manufacturer’s charging recommendations.
- Use scheduled charging when it is useful for daily routines.
- Avoid leaving the vehicle unnecessarily at an extreme state of charge for long periods.
- Keep vehicle software updated when updates include battery or charging-management improvements.
- Do not panic about occasional fast charging; usage patterns matter over the long term.
Battery care should be practical rather than obsessive. Modern battery-management systems perform much of the protective work automatically.
