The best electric sedan is not necessarily the one with the largest battery or the fastest acceleration. It is the one that best matches your daily driving, charging access, climate and budget.
Eight questions worth asking
- Can you charge reliably at home or at work?
- How much real-world range do your normal journeys actually require?
- How efficient is the vehicle at the speeds you normally drive?
- How quickly does it charge during a typical fast-charging session?
- Is rear-seat and trunk space sufficient for your needs?
- How does the vehicle behave in your local winter or summer climate?
- What warranty applies to the high-voltage battery and drivetrain?
- What are the likely insurance, tire and depreciation costs?
A test drive should also include the basics: seating position, visibility, ride quality, noise, controls and software. An EV can be technologically impressive and still be the wrong car for a particular driver.
